Norwich Union’s business products all provide the policyholder with Public Liability cover. Public liability insurance is designed to cover businesses in the event that they are sued by a third party who feels that they have suffered a loss as a result of that business’ negligence.
If a claim is made, then the dispute will often end up in court, and even if the business itself is blameless, the process can be very costly. Public Liability covers the expenses of the court process, as well as settling any successful claim.
Public liability insurance is designed to protect you in the case that a successful claim is made against the business. If you do not have public liability insurance and a third party successfully pursues you for compensation you will be liable to pay the full amount to the claimant.
Public liability insurance will not prevent claims from happening. Employer’s liability cover enables businesses to meet the costs of compensation and legal fees for employees who are injured at work when the employer is held at fault. Employer’s Liability Insurance also guarantees that an employee will be able to make a claim against the insurance policy even if the business itself has gone bankrupt, which means that employees are always protected by the policy.
The law states that as an employer you must have a minimum of £5 million worth of employer's liability insurance. Norwich Union automatically provide you with double the amount, £10 million.
